How to tackle mosquito menace

I wrote to Hindu, Metro Plus for the topic "How to tackle mosquito menace" , to be published on March 5. But it did not get published. So I decided to put it in my blog.

Water stagnation in the road cause breeding of mosquitoes. Most of us dump organic wastes with other less decomposable wastes. This delays the decomposing of organic wastes. This huge dump of garbage piled up on the streets causes water stagnation leading to breeding of mosquitoes. We should avoid dumping organic wastes with other wastes. Instead, we can dump the organic wastes in soil or flower pots with soil. By this we can make manure out of organic wastes. Also in our houses mosquitoes hide in unused goods. We have to keep our house clean with less goods.

In my house we prepare manure out of organic wastes.

Can cattle identify red color?

Can cattle identify red color?

No!! It's is only a myth.

A common misconception about cattle (particularly bulls) is that they are enraged by the color red (something provocative is often said to be "like a red rag to a bull"). This is incorrect, as cattle are red-green colour-blind.[9] [10] [11] The myth arose from the use of red capes in the sport of bullfighting; in fact, two different capes are used. The capote is a large, flowing cape that is magenta and yellow. The more famous muleta is the smaller, red cape, used exclusively for the final, fatal segment of the fight. It is not the color of the cape that angers the bull, but rather the movement of the fabric that irritates the bull and incites it to charge.[12]

Although cattle cannot distinguish red from green, they do have two kinds of colour receptors in their retinas (cone cells) and so are theoretically able to distinguish some colours, probably in a similar way to other red-green colour-blind or dichromatic mammals (such as dogs, cats, horses and up to ten percent of male humans).[13] [14]

Joke by me

The chemical formula joke inspired me to write a new joke.
Here you go...

Some people are standing in a queue.
A man joined in the mid of the queue.
The others objected and said, "you selfish goose!!"
The man replied, "I only sell fish and not goose!!!"

Jokes

I read an interesting joke about chemical formula.
Here it is...
A conversation between a science teacher and a student

Little Johnny's teacher asks, "What is the chemical formula for water?"

Little Johnny replies, "HIJKLMNO"!!

The teacher, puzzled, asks, "What on Earth are you talking about?"
Puzzled Smiley

Little Johnny replies, "Yesterday you said it was H to O!"

Terrorism--Violence--Poverty:- Can it ever end?

David and his parents were travelling in their car. They were on the way back from a party. Suddenly there were lots of noises around. David could understand that they were stuck in traffic jam. They were surrounded by cars and trucks. There were people destroying public and private properties. They took many new ways and lot of time to reach home.

After reaching home David asked, "who are those guys? Why are they bothering the public and private properties?"

"They are terrorists. They fight for some rights; they are fighting against the government."

One day David went to buy food from the near by store, while retur
ning a boy from the street snatched the food from David and ran away.

David came home and asked his dad "why that boy snatched the food from me?"

"He is poor. He can't buy or prepare food. That's why he stole the food from you."

Day by day violence increased in their area. One day David heard lots of shooting sounds. He saw some army vehicles around.

"He asked his dad; whats going on around?"

"The terrorists are equipped with power full weapons. So the government has opened a war to fight against the terrorists
. That's why you could see army vehicles and hear shooting sounds."

Next day David went to school but, it was closed. so he came home.

"Why there is no school open dad?"

"There is a war going on here. Many people are losing their lives. Many people have homeless. those homeless people have taken shelter in school."

Out side the house he saw gang members shouting slogans against the government and destroying public and private properties they see in front of them. He also saw the boy who snatched the food
, going with the gang.

"Why that boy is in that gang, dad?"

"I can't explain it to you. You are too small to understand all these."

Few days later something fell on his house. He heard loud noise and cries and lost his conscious. Whe he got back his conscious he saw his mom him in her arm and hiding in a place.

"Where is dad and my brother?"

"I was not able to find them. I could only save you."

David understood that his father and his brother are missing and not sure if they are alive.

David and his mom were alone and homeless. They stayed in a school. His mom fell sick due to injuries in her leg.

The food distributed by the government was not enough because there were many homeless people living in the school.

He searched for job but, he didn't get any, may be he was too young. They starved for many days.

One day David saw a goup of boys eating in the lawn. He snatched food from one of the boys and ran back to the school. He gave the food to his mom. She refused to eat it because he stole the food from others.

Few days later his mom died due to starvation and sickness.

He cried for a long time. He got angry because of all these but he was helpless.

He heard slogans behind him. He saw some gangsters; he joined
them. He also did the activities they did. When he was moving with that gang he saw a boy snatching food from someone and running away. The boy was not fast enough and was caught and hit for stealing the food. The boy fell down and cried.

David now understood all these. He moved out of the gang and went near the boy. He consoled him. He held his hand and took him to the opposite side.

He didn't know where to go or what to do but, he knew he should never enter into violent activities and do crimes. To gain his rights or make up his laws he should no damage others.

He took the boy and walked away. still he could hear noises here and there. He knew that is never ending...

Homophones

The man and the hare

A man caught a hare,
To get its hair,
To make fur,
The hare in scare,
Jumped in the air,
Ran away far.

Homophones: a
word with different origin and meaning but the same pronunciation as another word, whether or not spelled alike, as (fare and fair).

The homophones I used in this poem are: Hair, air, hare.

My poem

When I am not good, I'm not cute ,
When I'm not cute, I am not
mute,
When I'm not mute, I speak nonsense,
When I speak nonsense, I don't have sense,
When I don't have sense, I get mad,
When I get mad, I make my mom sad.

If I have to be cute,
I have to be good.

My bluff about balloons

Our apartment front office used to have colorful balloons. I used to take away one now and then. My father warned me not to do so. One day when I was back from school the colorful balloon caught my eyes. I picked up one and came home and was playing with it.

My dad
: "Where did you get this from?"
Me : "I got it from school
."
My dad: "How did you bring it from school?"
Me : "It deflated. After coming home inflated it."
My dad: "Let it free"
Me : "Okay okay okaaay..."
I let it free.
It flew up and stuck to the roof.

My dad: "It is a gas balloon so, don't bluff."
Me : " I.....uh......got it from the...uh...appartment office. I am...so sorry dad."

I asked my mom" How did he find it?"
Mom : Because room has less air. When you blow a balloon with air, the atmospheric air is lighter than the air in the balloon so, the balloon won't fly like a gas balloon.

Then I did an experiment using air and gas balloon.

Gas balloon

Air balloon

I understood that air balloon can't fly up like gas balloon.

My cute little brother

He is cute,
He never keeps his mouth mute.
He is funny,
I wish I could give him a bunny.
He is active,
And also attractive.
When he flaps fast his hands and legs,
He
reminds me of a joyful butterfly.

Here you could see my brother,
Isn't he cute?
Isn't he cute while crying?

My grandfather

He looks fair,
He gives me a good care.
His hair is grey,

He likes to pray.
Though he is short tempered,
I know he is good tempered.
He is smart,
He has a good heart.
He has good looks,

He is a good cook.
His vision is getting bad,

It is making me sad.

He taught me to walk,
Later, he may need me to help him with walk.

Rain

Rain

Rain comes down from the cloud,
The water in the ground evaporates,
And goes to the sky,
And forms black clouds,
The clouds get heavy,
The rain comes down,
And fills the lake,ocean,ponds...
All organisms depend on water to survive.

Books I read

During my vacation I read 2 books, 'Beyond The sunrise' and 'Racing The Wind' from Dolphin Diaries series.

A marine engineer's family sails across the world to study about dolphins. Their daughter Jody travels along with them and she narrates her experience.
Beyond The sunrise was the first book I read. This story location is Sunderbans delta of Bangladesh. Jody makes friend with an Irrawaddy dolphin which she names Sandhi, and when Sandhi disappears, Jody worries that her dolphin...
Racing The Wind was the second book I read. Jody' family arrives in the rain forest of Venezuela to see some of the pink river dolphins called botos. These dolphins are of rare kind and less social and hence she wonders if she will ever find any of them...

First time I heard that dolphins live in rivers and there are variety of dolphins and they vary in size and shape. Also I understood that they are
endangered species because of poachers and other environmental threats.

The interesting thing I read about dolphins are that they recognize people and also guide people to find their way when they get lost in mid of water. This reminded me of the story I have read about a dophin called Pelorous Jack who guided the way for ships to cross French Pass for many years.

Here is a link to an article about Pelorous Jack : http://www.pelorus-jack.com/about/legend.html

I cook too

Is your mom busy or not well and you are hungry? Don't worry. Here is a recipe you can make for yourself and for your mom.

It is simple to prepare Veggie Noodles in microwave oven.

  • Take a microwave bowl.
  • Add vegetables of your choice. Best fit would be peas, carrot, broccoli, onion. Vegetables is optional though.
  • Pour water in it. Measurement? mm... Amount enough to sink the noodles when you add it later. Don't add the noodles now.
  • Add the noodles masala to the water and stir.
  • Leave the bowl in the microwave and cook for 3 mins.
  • Take it out and add Veggie Noodles and stir it. If water is not sufficient add some.
  • Cook in microwave for 3 min
  • Take out. Stir it and cook again in microwave for 3 mins.
Can you smell the flavor that is filling the room?
Here you go... Yummy noodles!!!

Baby with no eyes

Last year when we were in India, one day my mom took me to a home where they take care of babies ignored by their families. There were many babies there. Most of them were female babies. My mom showed me a baby and said that she and her friend are sponsoring for that baby.

"There are so many babies here. Why this baby alone???? I asked."

"Because she is special. She is a needy child"

"Special!!!!!!"

"yeah. Because she has no
eyes."

"No eyes!!!!!!!! why?????????"

"I don't know."

"Why she is here??? "

"Because she was
ignored by her family. They left the baby here."

"Why they left her here. Why can't they take care of her?"

"There could be many reasons. Poverty or social concerns or something else. It is difficult to know or explain to you"

When we were talking I saw the baby opening her left eye. I saw just a dot moving.

I felt very sorry for her. Why should babies are born with such defects?, i thought.

I searched in the web and found that there are many babies like her.

I read about the concern of a mother one such

Silly moments

Me and Samosa

In the morning I gave a schedule to my mom about how I am going to spend the day. But, I didn't follow the schedule and played a lot. Evening my dad took us for shopping. My mom asked me to eat/drink something so that we don't need to spend time on eating out. I refused to eat saying that I am not hungry.

After we reached the shop, instead of saying that I am hungry I gave a buildup saying that I have stomach pain. Inside the shop I behaved well and helped my mom and got some sweets and cookies. The flavor that hit my nose from the chat corner near the cash counter tempted me. When I asked my mom for Samosa (a North Indian snack item) she refused to get it for me.
I spoke nonsense

My mom got irritated and she said she will never get it for me. I started to behave like a mad(crazy). I went and sat somewhere in the dark and I refused to get in the car. All these made my dad to get wild.

After getting back home my mom explained me about my mistake. The mistake list she gave was :- not being obedient, not being contented, talking nonsense for silly things, talking back and, running away.

I learnt that I don't have to get mad for silly things. If I don't get some thing now I might get it later. But if I behave silly it might turn out to be dangerous.
